Practicum Day 1

I would like to think that my first day as an intern went well. I offered an idea to solve one problem. That was good.

Overall the day was a lot of orientation and a little bit at the service desk. Because I work at this University as a regular employee, I was particularly afraid of the desk. I know entirely too many people. I don’t want people I know coming to the desk to ask me questions just to entertain themselves. Other than that, my second fear is to get a question that I have no answer to nor have any idea how to get the answer to it. It’s medicine. These questions can be important. But I was assured that for most questions, I should get someone to partner with me rather than tackle it on my own.

Which is funny, really. I just had a conversation with my daughter and her anxiety about getting her first job. She had the same fear and it was crippling her. I spent a couple of hours convincnig her that they don’t throw you in the deep end of the pool without something, anything.

For the life of me, I couldn’t remember that for myself.
