Unexpected progress

I rarely get to say this, but I had a very productive meeting. It was with a department head, introducing myself and offering an opportunity to get to know me and my work, and a chance to get to know that department.

A number of topics came up that I expected later on in a more developed relationship. One was the opportunity to teach a one credit course, developed around information searching and data management on a lab level. The department head brought up that subject and was totally supportive and offered to back me on getting a more robust module into the curriculum.

I’ll be formally meeting the faculty on the next meeting, but this was an astounding and expected start. Maybe I should set my targets a little higher.

In other updates, I was encouraged to write an artcle I was thinking about. I need to do a little more literature searching, but, I don’t think much has been done yet. I have a number of concrete projects that I want to get started. And I have a better idea of what I might want to focus on in my career and what gap could be filled at this institution.

Today was a good day.
