Bikes and books
I have successfully biked both to and from work today. It was more labor than I thought having an actual gym workout as well. I discovered that while Jackson is scary, its manageable. Drivers, in general, are used to a lot of bikes on the road in the loop. The inevitable happened. Now that I am riding a bike in the city, I see them everywhere and it wasn’t unusual to have a few of us lined up at a stop light.
What I also discovered, is that this will be a little hard on my knees. These bikes are not light. The bike in the morning wouldn’t hold it’s seat position, so my knees were working harder and bending more than they should. I’m spoiled by having a good hybrid bike, well taken care of and fitted for me at home. I know what a good bike should feel like. Divvy bikes are sturdy nad are made for the masses, as they should be. But I have some adapting to do.
I did make a bike friend. There was only one bike in the rack outside work and it had a flat. There were others there, but the system wouldn’t unlock them. So together we walked to the next station and picked up two there. I never caught her name. It was my second day and her first at the bike thing. We just shared a couple of stories and wished each other a good trip home.
Now that I’m on my second mode of transportation, my mind is turning to books. I noticed my Amazon list is up to two pages again. It’s a mixture of fiction, non -fiction, and all sorts of topics. I figured that most of my list, ten books, comes to $164. Maybe that will be my treat if my contract gets renewed.
