Exhaustion, stress, and headaches
Today I had definitive proof that I have a connection betwee exhaustion and headaches. I had the data last April, but today was a prime example. The past twenty-four hours have been a time of heightened vigilance regarding my son and his mental health. The start of this episode began at almost two in the morning. When I wake up that early and are ripped from the Nexus, I feel physically sick until I wake up enough to be alert.
My husband and I discussed the issue and the steps we would need to take the next day for a few hours. We also discussed his reaction and how he wasn’t handling it well, making me the person to stay home, have a conversation with the boy, and monitor the situation. We eventually went to bed, but I was disrupted again when my husband left for work a few hours later.
The whole situation could have been worse, I’m grateful that it wasn’t. Still, the toll it takes on the psyche to be vigilant, not overreact but still be critical, all on extremely disrupted sleep is high. By the time I went to bed last night the right side of my head was developing a headache.
I probably should have taken something for it, but I was concerned that I wouldn’t sleep because of the stimulant. Being awake and rehashing the day was not somthing that was going to be helpful for me, so I toughed out a bad night sleep. I woke in extreme pain and a clenched jaw. I still have the clenched jaw.
I put myself on a regimen for the day. I usually take my meds on a as needed basis, so I find that I will skip a dose and the headache comes back later. I have a couple of options, both are versions of a high dose anti-inflammatory with a migrane med. One regimen is more hardcore than the other. I chose to take the lesser becuase I didn’t think this was a true migrane, but something that developed circumstantially. It took until the second or third dose before I can say I was pain free. I’ll take another dose of both tonight with dinner and hope it gets me through the night.
With any luck, I will stop the cycle for this round and be headed into a decent weekend.
