Influence

This transition to deep midlife Brene Brown has called “unraveling.” It’s an apt description. I’m doing a lot of deliberate mental and emotional work. I’m only starting to see now how much work OS still ahead of me. A few books that have opened that path.

  • Daring Greatly by Brene Brown. Clarified the difference between guilt and shame and gave me questions that allow me to examine these in my own life.
  • The Joy Diet by Martha Beck. I only read this recently, but it outlines steps to find joy in everyday living.
  • Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach. This reminded me the exact scope of the responsibities of my life and give me tools to shape it.
  • The subtle art of not giving a f*ck by Mark Manson. Some of the same concepts in Radical Acceptance and as seen in acceptance and commitment therapy, but more raw and lots more profanity.
  • Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown. This particular book describes the how being truly yourself is the path to belonging, but also means standing alone and the tension between.
  • Burnout by Emily and Amelia Nagoski. I’m surprised by how much I identify with the the concepts within. I’m currently reading it but the first part has given me tools to to identify and deal with stress and stressors.
