Work clarity
I don’t to talk about work, but that is the only thing that my brain wants to do right now, so I will work with it. I’m half way through a busy work week and I have a lot to get done before it is over.
One of the meetings that I had gone to was a special faculty meeting that was to discuss the changes in promotion and tenure form and to outline the current, elected committes available to run. The first applies to me, the second doesn’t.
What I got out of the meeting was the clarification on what I was to be evaluated on during my next review. While all of us use the same form, and all of the sections can be filled out (librarianship, research, service), I will be primarily be evaluated on librarianship. The others are good, especially if I get the chance to make the tenure track jump, but not strictly necessary. And this lets me focus on the semester better.
The second portion of the meeting, while I cannot run for positions, did clarify what mght be available for me in the future and gave me a picture of how the larger library operates as a political and academic unit. Useful information and lets me get a picture of how I will need to balance the three aspects I will be evaluated on. If there is one thing I have learned here so far, is that balance is incredibly difficult to manage.
